The Hub City Humane Society is hosting its second annual 'Tricks for Treats on the Trace' event today to raise funds for the animals in its care. The celebration runs from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Fields of Barktopia Dog Park on Jackson Road in Hattiesburg.

Families and their dogs are invited to participate in various activities designed to support the shelter's ongoing operations. Attendees can purchase game tickets for a set fee or opt for an all-you-can-play wristband priced at $25. Local vendors will provide free candy to guests throughout the afternoon.

Shelter director Tamara Huff explained that donation levels typically drop as the holiday season approaches, making this event a critical funding opportunity. She noted that the organization uses the proceeds to maintain financial stability during these slower months. "So we are using it in order to prepare for the upcoming months and get some sustainability," Huff said. The funds go directly toward medical care, food, and keeping the facility open daily.

In addition to the games, the event features costume contests for both humans and their dogs. Organizers encourage participants to dress up their pets and join the competitions, which offer prizes. The gathering serves as a community Halloween celebration that directly benefits the shelter's budget. All proceeds from the event will support the Hub City Humane Society and its residents.
