Picayune residents gathered Monday for a community event supporting breast cancer patients. The city organized the 'Puttin’ on the Pink' fundraiser to promote awareness and provide financial backing for local support networks.

October serves as a dedicated period for educating the public and promoting detection services. Local organizers use these activities to connect patients with resources and funding for ongoing research.

Rebecca Grob, owner of Luxus Aesthetics and Wellness, spoke to the crowd about the importance of personal health checks. “We encourage every person to be aware of their body,” Grob said. “If you feel a lump or something that’s not right, there are signs to look for.”

The American Cancer Society reports that approximately 2.4 million women receive a breast cancer diagnosis each year. While the disease primarily affects women, men can also be diagnosed with the condition.

Health experts emphasize that regular screenings and mammograms are necessary to detect the disease at an early stage. Common warning signs include lumps in the breast, changes in the appearance of breast tissue, and discharge from the nipples.

Local participants are advised to contact their doctors and stay updated on their health status. The event continues to serve as a focal point for community health initiatives in the Picayune area.
