President Donald Trump arrived in Corinth on Monday to campaign for incumbent U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith. During a one-on-one interview with a local reporter, the president addressed voter concerns regarding grocery prices, gas costs, and the state's congressional map. He told the audience that Hyde-Smith is a fantastic senator who should win easily.

Trump stated he inherited the worst inflation in American history, which he claimed reached 21 percent. He noted that inflation has dropped to 1.7 percent in the last three months. The president linked future gas prices to the conclusion of the conflict with Iran. He recalled seeing gasoline prices between $1.85 and $1.95 per gallon in Iowa before the recent military actions. He promised prices would return to that level quickly once the war ends.

On the international front, Trump said the United States has defeated the Iranian Navy, Air Force, and military. He cited Iranian inflation at 301 percent and said the country's leaders are gone. He described Iran as the worst and most dangerous country in the world. Trump said the U.S. needs to finish the job to prevent Iran from re-emerging with a nuclear weapon in the future. He dismissed the idea of an imminent threat to the power grid, claiming a strong response would stop any such threat quickly.

The president discussed Mississippi redistricting and the state's remaining Democratic member of Congress, Bennie Thompson. Trump said Thompson received a pardon from Joe Biden. He described Thompson as a terrible congressman for his district. The president encouraged the legislature to redraw lines and noted that Mississippi is one of the only states that has not moved after the Calais decision.

Regarding voter turnout, Trump said Republicans have more spirit than Democrats in midterm elections. He noted that his presence on the ballot historically increases vote share by 49 percent. He urged voters to act as if he were on the ballot to ensure high turnout for Hyde-Smith. On state economic policy, Trump endorsed the governor's push for data center construction. He said the infrastructure makes Mississippi wealthy and lowers taxes.

The interview concluded with Trump saying he won in a record vote and holds a special place in history. He expressed his love for Mississippians. The visit took place in Corinth, a city in Neshoba County, ahead of the midterm elections.
