Hinds County election officials have finalized logistical adjustments to accommodate a projected high volume of voters on November 3. The changes streamline material handling at the county election center and introduce new options for in-person absentee voting.

Hinds County Election Commissioner Yvonne Robinson Horton stated that officials expect a large crowd on election day. To manage the flow, the commission is preparing to dispatch extra ballots to all 108 precincts in the county. Polling locations will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m., with no changes to the designated precinct boundaries.

The Hinds County Election Commission headquarters now serves as the single point of contact for both the pickup and delivery of election materials. Previously, materials were distributed to various locations and returned to the county courthouse. Horton explained that the new setup consolidates the process into one location to improve safety for workers. Signs have been ordered to direct staff and volunteers through the new workflow.

Horton clarified a common misunderstanding regarding ballot markings. She noted that rumors have circulated suggesting ballots with writing on them should be returned. In practice, every ballot must be initialed on the back. Voters who receive their ballots will be required to provide this initial as part of the standard procedure.

New assistive technology known as ExpressVote is available for voters with disabilities. The system supports individuals with low or no vision, limited hand mobility, or those who cannot use their feet. The device can read ballots aloud and adjust visual contrast. Additionally, the county has implemented curb-side voting options to assist voters who have difficulty reaching standard polling booths.

In-person absentee voting is now available at the Raymond or Hinds County Circuit Clerk’s Office. The process mirrors the procedure used at standard polling places. Voters present a simple form of identification, initial the back of their ballot, cast their vote directly into the machine, and watch it enter the DS 300 device. The ballot does not go into an envelope, allowing voters to see their vote being processed immediately.
